http://unite.hackshackers.comA hands-on gathering to build storytelling applications for tablet devicesThe focus for the first Hacks/Hackers Unite event (Twitter hashtag #hhunite) will be to push the boundaries of journalistic storytelling for tablet devices, such as the iPad.Teams of hacks (content creators) and hackers (developers and designers) will cooperate to tell a story on a tablet. Each team must have at least one hack and hacker each. You can come with a story you’d like to work on and an already formed team, or find collaborators and ideas to work on.This will not be a basic tutorial in multimedia journalism or iPhone/iPad and Web development, but we will have experts and speakers to give advice. Developers from KQED and NPR will be showcasing the NPR API and tools availble to access public media sources, but you can use any source or form of multimedia (text, photos, video or whatever you can dream up) to build native HTML5 Web applications or use the iPhone SDK to create iPad applications.Let’s take chances and invent new forms storytelling for this new medium. The work that comes out of Hacks/Hackers Unite has the chance to set new paradigms for journalism on tablet devices. The best examples will be highlighted on KQED’s Web site.REGISTER NOWFor more details on the event or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Burt Herman at burtherman@gmail.com.
