Inneract Project is currently seeking Mentors and Teachers as volunteers for their upcoming 2014 Design Academy! It's a great chance to get into the teaching-side of design and design principles.
What is Youth Design Academy (YDA)?
YDA is an 8-week program for inner-city middle school students. As an IP Volunteer Teacher, you will work with a team of designers to help our nonprofit mission of providing a fun and well-rounded design education to inner-city middle school students. Our program strives to inspire young people to pursue higher education and to consider design as a viable career opportunity.
Locations: Academy of Art Univ. (SF), California College of the Arts (Oakland campus)
Compensation: Stipend available
Lesson preparation: Feb 1, 2014 - Mar 1, 2014
Teaching Commitment: March 8, 2014 - April 26, 2014 (Sat only)
Reception: May 10, 2014
- Co-teach a total of 8 Saturday classes, 9:30am -1:30pm.
- Meet with the IP education committee to prepare for classes. (3-4 Saturdays in February)
- Design and prepare lesson plans and student activities
- Reflect on teaching practices and respond to feedback
- Present completed student design work and recap of the experience at IP reception.
Who would be a good fit?- Design professionals with knowledge of design principles and practical understanding of design and a passion for collaborating with the community at large.- Previous teaching and/or mentoring experience (working with 11 to 14 year age group a plus).- Presentation and organization skills with the dedication to work with youth.- Openness to feedback and willingness to take personal responsibility.
Folks interested in being Volunteer Teaching Assistants are encouraged to apply as well.- No stipend for TA positions- Shorter and more flexible time commitments- Photography skills preferred
