User Experience Designer/Rapid Prototyper

 

Primary job responsibilities

Join eBay’s User Experience Design (UED) group as a member of the research labs team where you will help envision, design and build the future user interface for eBay Marketplaces. You will apply rapid ideation, design, and prototyping skills to deliver innovative solutions for several initiatives of eBay Research Labs. This is an opportunity to help shape the way that millions of people shop around the world and invent the future of eCommerce.

 

You should be passionate about building easy-to-use, dynamic interfaces and experiences that are engaging, functional and fun!  As a member of the research labs team, you'll work closely with cross-functional team members and with the design team on projects ranging from creating new and unique experiences to improving existing eBay flows.  Some of what you work on will make it to the site directly while other projects may inspire and lead the way for other teams. You’ll also create your own visiontypes to inspire future strategy and experiences for eBay.

 

The ideal candidate will:

• Be a creative problem solver and demonstrate out-of-the box thinking while also delivering solutions that meet users and business goals
• Create sketches & visualizations of concepts you propose and rapidly develop prototypes
• Partner with UED, product, business, technical partners and research labs team members to identify key user and business problems to solve
• Evangelize solutions to internal teams and socialize prototypes to external teams
• Have an existing knowledge of rapid prototyping technologies, be inquisitive to stay up-to-date on new technologies and trends and be a quick learner
• Be passionate about innovation and creating products that differentiate

 

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Degree in design or related technical field or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years working in the design field
• Proven ability to do rapid ideation, prototyping and problem solving
• Proficient in programming and rapid prototyping languages prototyping enabling the creation of actual working prototype applications
• Expertise in XHTML, PHP, HTML5 and CSS3
• Working knowledge of simple APIs and services
• Understanding of constraints & capabilities of Javascript and/or Javascript libraries, DOM & XML
• Experience with Java, ActionScript, PHP, Xcode, Flash/Flex and/or Python a plus
• Sketching and visual thinking skills a big plus
• Strong portfolio featuring design samples (preferably consumer web)
