Hello--- RE: "How Can the Design Community Help Innovate Our Response to the Drought?"There is nothing to innovate except our mindset. Simply eat a plant-based diet and reduce the demand for meat and dairy that drive water consumption beyond all other demands, even fossil fuel. It is not limiting, rather it vastly increases our options for what is possible to eat and conserve via a cornucopia of things that are not animal-based.
The much vaunted gallon of water per almond is nothing compared to how much is wasted on the unsustainable meat and dairy industries-- this should not be mystical information for the design community in this day in age. We will collectively improve our health and compassion at the same time, also sparing animals intolerable suffering.
