This unique talk and workshop brings together different viewpoints around the Pair-Based process as it relates to design, development and product evolution. Pair-based workflows were initially a developer movement that used teams of two for quality control and efficiency amongst engineers. San Francisco-based, Pivotal Labs were founded around this principle and currently employ the Pairing technique around the world across hundreds of their engineers. With time, these side-by-side workflows evolved to incorporate not just development, but design as well.

Presenting will be Tim McCoy, the Design Director at Pivotal, to discuss how Pairing works when design and development overlap, how that relationship changes from traditional workflows. Chris Noessel and Suzy Thompson, Design Directors from Cooper, a longstanding design and UX agency in San Francisco, have re-appropriated Pairing to a design-based approach. Their perspectives and exercises illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of Pair Design and its use at an agency such as Cooper. Lastly, Karl Dotter is the founder of PairDesign.co, a founding mentor at the Designer Fund and gives talks and workshops on how to help paired design teams become more efficient & healthy.
