Accessibility and inclusive design are integral to success in product design and development. In this talk, the Zendesk Garden Design Systems team gives an overview of accessible and inclusive design, does a deep dive into creating an accessible color system for UI, and delves into the ways in which our design system provides both accessibility and flexibility to the designers and developers that use it.

About the speakers:

Allison Shaw

Allison is a lead product designer with more than 10 years of experience across consumer and enterprise tech. She has a passion for design systems and a knack for shipping products with major impact for both customers and bottom lines. Currently, she leads design for Zendesk’s design system, with a focus on accessibility, design tooling, documentation, and design/engineering collaboration. Previously, she drove the customer experience on Thumbtack, helped grow a world wide audience at Twitter, and led the design of Yelp.com. You can find her all over the web as @allisonacs.

Austin Green

Austin is a Senior Software Engineer on the Garden Design Systems team at Zendesk where he focuses on creating shared front-end tooling and helping bridge the gap between engineering and design. Prior to Zendesk, Austin worked as a Full-Stack developer in the data virtualization, sports management, and avionics fields. He rarely tweets @austingreendev.
