At the inaugural meeting of this BOF, on 9/29/09, a decision was made to investigate current eye tracking practices as related to usability evaluation. These practices include hardware, software, participant recruitment, analysis tools, and deliverables. The goal of this exercise is to provide a starting point for the development of best practices and guidelines for the use of eye tracking in usability evaluations. This session will include ample time for discussion of results and determining the next steps for our eye tracking community.Joe Goldberg, Principal Research Scientist, Oracle USAJoe gets to do in-depth research in visualization and usability methods within the Applications User Experience organization of Oracle Corporation. He enjoys creative data analysis, and has recently helped develop a pattern recognition tool for eye tracking data analysis. Prior to coming to Oracle in 2001, he spent 17 years as a professor within the Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering Department at Penn State University. There, he taught and conducted research in Human Factors Engineering, Safety, and Statistics. Joe holds a joint Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Psychology, an M.S. in Industrial Engineering, and a B.S. in Psychology, all from the University of Michigan. He enjoys woodworking, long-distance biking, and being a daddy.
