Creativity in Practice, by Eddie Yun Shieh
What does it mean to be creative? As designers, we are expected to bring creativity to the table. Our reputations, livelihoods, and identities are wrapped up in the notion of being creative. Our workplaces continuously strive to increase creative output while our industry espouses the promise of creativity as a game-changer. Yet how many of us actually understand how creativity happens and what it needs to thrive? Furthermore, how many of us know how to unlock the creative potential in others?

By the end of this talk and workshop follows you’ll gain a perspective on creativity that helps answer these questions. You’ll learn principles that you can apply in your work, team and organization.

Eddie enjoys the pleasure and honor of serving DesignMap as a Design Coach. He works with individuals one-on-one and leads learning initiatives at the studio inspired by needs and topics important to his clients. Since gaining new toolsets in coaching and facilitation, Eddie has been able to bring his whole self to his work. He’s grateful for this every day!

Making Models to Design Better Experiences, by Mike Aurelio @aureliocity
As user experience designers, we’re working everyday with multidisciplinary teams to solve large strategic problems to small tactical ones. How often have you found yourself, or your team members “solutioning” too soon? Maybe your understanding of the problem isn’t completely aligned? Perhaps one of you has more context than the other? How do you know that you all aren’t completely missing something?

See how we use models at DesignMap to understand concepts and problems as a team, see the big picture, guide direction toward designing better experiences. Then, we’ll guide you through a basic process for creating your own concept models. Whether you’ve done this before, or if it’s completely new to you, you’ll leave with a sharper tool in your designer’s toolbox.

Mike is a Design Director at DesignMap, and has been with the studio for nearly a decade. He has designed for, and leads multidisciplinary teams to design products for clients like InsideSales, Charles Schwab, CloudGenix, Branding Brand, and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
